MSPaint is actually a very powerful image editor. Here's all the things about MSPaint you probably didn't know. Chapter 1 - Brush Scaling This is pretty much the most basic thing here. You may think that the standard brush sizes in MSPaint only come in the three sizes, right? Open up a new document in paint, select the paintbrush tool, hold Ctrl and press the + button on the numpad. The brush size will grow as big as you need! Amazing, huh? Download this app from Microsoft Store for Windows 10, Windows 10 Team (Surface Hub). See screenshots, read the latest customer reviews, and compare ratings for Paint 3D. MS Paint fans rejoice: The original art app isn’t going anywhere – except to the Windows Store for free! This technique also works with the line tool, the spraypaint tool, and the eraser tool. Chapter 2 - Custom Brushes This is the one that NOBODY knows - You can make your own custom brushes in paint! Select the pencil tool and draw yourself a small textured brush in X color. Here's what I did: Now, select that little image, turn transparency on, hold shift, and drag it around! You can draw ANYTHING and do this. Here's another one I did. Chapter 2 1/2 - The 'Stamp' Tool This is something I improvised. It's the 'Stamp' tool. I didn't put it in its own chapter because technically it's part of chapter 2, but moreso different. So, I have this image of an old lady: And I want to put these leaves in her hair. Now, I could copy and paste all day, but there is an easy way around this. Select the leaf, turn transparency on, and drag the leaf to wherever you want it. Whenever it's there, while it's still selected, hold shift, click once, release shift, and drag the image away.:O! Repeat as necessary ( I rotated too. ) Chapter 3 - Image Scaling So say you scanned something and the image is WAY too big and you want it smaller. How do you go about that? Well, open up paint and paste your image in. I didn't have anything massive to scan so I used this picture of a Dr Pepper. Now, say you want it smaller. You probably try to highlight it and scale it, right? It ends up looking compressed and improportioned. Well, there's an easier way. All it takes is a single keystroke! Ctrl+Plus(Numpad) to make it larger or Ctrl+Minus(Numpad) to make it smaller. This is especially useful for scaling sprites, as it keeps their pixels proportional. Chapter 4 - Color Replacement Say you have drawn something with an absolutely crazy pixel border, and all of a sudden you don't like the border color. Like this box I drew. Now, I want to re-color the border yellow but I have absolutely 0 time and 0 energy. What do I do? I use the COLOR REPLACEMENT FUNCTION! Select the eraser tool. In the primary color box, select the color that you don't like that you want to erase. In the secondary color box, select the color you want to replace said exiled color with. Then hold right click and sweep with the eraser tool over the ugly color. If your drawing is large, scale the eraser brush as needed. Chapter 5 - The Grid Say that you're trying to edit a piece of pixel art that you drew, and, even though you're zoomed in all the way, you're having trouble fine tuning - you're having trouble positioning the crusor where you want. This is where the grid comes in. MSPaint comes with a built-in grid feature, accessable by hotkeys. To view the grid, simply zoom in to either 6x or 8x, and hit Ctrl+G. Chapter 6 - Other Things Another feature of paint that is more commonly known about is the 'quick undo' feature. It doesn't really have that much use, and, more often than not, is accidentally toggled by the user. This ends up in frustration. So let's say that you're drawing a smiley face, and you get the eyes down good. So then you move onto the mouth, you start drawing, and it's going good. But just then, suddenly, you launch into an epileptic seizure. Your body flails around wildly, and, unfortunately, your hand is not an exception to the flailing. That seizure just done gone and [messed] up your artwork! But, for whatever reason, your finger is still pressed down on the mouse. This means that you will be saved the effort of having to reach ALL THE WAY UP to Edit -> Undo. Quite simply, if you mess up, and your mouse is still pressed, you can hit the opposite mouse button to undo what you have drawn so far. In our case, a simple right click will revert our smiley back to his no-mouth state. This feature may not appear to be useful at first, but if you're drawing small lines and squiggles such as fur or something, this tool is a godsend and may save you some medical bills for repetitive strain injury for hitting Ctrl+Z so much. Another feature, that was brought to my attention by Hazard Rush Studios is one that is nameless in nature and appears to be completely useless, and may possible have no practical function at all. Pros: Built-in ad blocker, VPN, and battery saver. Fast performance. Helpful Speed Dial start page. Turbo mode speeds up slow connections, reduces data usage. Gestures for easy navigation. Cons: Some sites balk at an unrecognized browser. No reading mode or reading list. Lacks social sharing tool. Bottom Line: The Opera browser has some new tricks up its sleeve. Notable recent additions include a built-in VPN, an ad-blocker, and a battery-saver mode, all of which make it well worth downloading. Sometimes it feels like there’s only room for four choices when it comes to web browsers on Windows: Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer. You’ll find some people running Opera, too, but for the most part it’s all about the big four. Despite the seemingly small world of web browsers, there’s an entire alternative universe out there. All of them are fighting for your attention with unique features and specializations around new interface concepts, privacy, music, social media, and more. If you’re looking to shake up your web-surfing experience, consider these 10 great browsers not named Firefox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer. Opera Neon Ian Paul/IDG Underpinnings: Blink rendering engine Focus: Re-imagining the browser debuted in early 2017 as an experiment in interface design and new browser features. Opera describes it as a proving ground “similar to the way concept cars predict the future of automobiles.” In fact, Opera released a that included some inspiration from Neon. When I installed Expression Studio 4 Premium (the version they gave us for beta testing) into my new Win10 laptop, the built-in snippets didn't get installed then either. Turned out that that installation didn't include SP2, which is when the new snippets panel was added to EW4. Prior to that I wouldn't imagine that all those neatly categorized and 'foldered' built-in snippets would have been there. Check 'Help|About' and see if you have SP2. If not, download and install it and that should resolve your issue. Web design app Microsoft Expression Studio 4 Web Professional costs than half the price of Dreamweaver CS6, yet it offers most of its features of its more muscular competitor, in a clearer, more efficient interface. Kathy, was your EW installation already there when you upgraded to Win10, or did you do a new install into a machine with an existing Win10 installation? If so, did you install the free version (which included SP2a), which would have included the snippets already? Cheers, scott Please remember to 'Mark as Answer' the responses that resolved your issue. It is common courtesy to recognize those who have helped you, and it also makes it easier for visitors to find the resolution later. Well, I'll be straight up honest that the reason I didn't install that free version is plain, pure, paranoia. Having had a machine on which EW stopped working, and no reinstall or.NET rebuild accomplished a rebirth, I'm hoping (perhaps forlornly;-) that if my commercial version bites the dust I'll be able to try a.NET rebuild and install of the final free version. If not, well there's always the virtual machine route. Cheers, scott Please remember to 'Mark as Answer' the responses that resolved your issue. It is common courtesy to recognize those who have helped you, and it also makes it easier for visitors to find the resolution later. The Good Microsoft Expression Web design software supports XHTML, XML, CSS, and W3C accessibility standards; integrates with Expression Studio and Visual Studio. The Bad Microsoft Expression Web lacks FrontPage's help for design beginners; is expensive; offers limited tech support; supports Windows only. The Bottom Line Microsoft Expression Web is a solid Web site layout program that replaces FrontPage and offers tools for dynamic designs, although we'd like more help for newbies. Visit for details. Microsoft may not be the first name that comes to mind when it comes to digital design. With its rollout of Expression software, however, the company is vying to win over users of and other tools such as Namo WebEditor. The $299 Expression Web, which replaces, is the Web design application in Microsoft's new lineup. To run Expression Web, you should have Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1 or newer, or the new Windows Vista. Make sure to check the ReadMe section of Microsoft's Web site before installation, as you may have to add Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 and uninstall any beta versions of Microsoft Office 2007. A trial download of Expression Web is available. We spent about 15 minutes installing Expression Web. Once you have the program running, you can choose from a variety of templates to get started with a personal or professional Web site. We like that Expression Web includes templates for CSS designs as well as ASP.NET forms. Expression Web will also open an existing Web site or import one via FrontPage extensions, FTP, HTTP, or WebDAV. However, Dreamweaver CS3 does offer more template choices. The interface of Expression Web looks significantly similar to that of Dreamweaver. You can view code or design, or both. Page views, folders, tools and other elements are divided into panes that you can dock and drag and drop nearly anywhere on the screen. Anyone migrating from Dreamweaver should be able to jump right in and use Expression Web without much effort. If you breathe dynamic Web design, then Expression Web offers solid features for managing XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, and XML. Expression Web is even less cluttered than Dreamweaver in this regard. We found it easy to move the same Web pages between both programs without causing problems in the code. Plus, Expression Web supports W3C accessibility standards for designing pages for people with disabilities--a must-have for those creating business Web sites. Instead of looping multiple computers through a piece of hardware, it lets you control them from a single keyboard and mouse. As a software solution, you might want to just go with the KVM switch. Synergy can be extremely difficult to configure, especially determining precise computer names and server locations. Even though the program lets you rename computers with simpler aliases, it can still be challenging to configure Synergy properly. The interface is uninspired, but at least it's not confusing. Once you get Synergy running, you can switch from one computer to the next simply by push your mouse off-screen. You can configure that switching location to be on any or all of the four sides of your main monitor. Users can also configure screensavers to start simultaneously, and can link log-in information so that one hard drive doesn't hibernate while you're working on another one. The clipboards can also be linked, making it dead easy to transfer small chunks of information, such as URLs, from one system to the next. This is a difficult program to set up properly, but it works well once going and might even be considered a must-have, or at least a must-try, for anybody who uses more than one computer at a time. Completely up to date according to onsite WSUS and Microsoft updates. He is telling me that our version is not up to date because it isn't showing version number 16.0.6769.2017 My questions are: Does version 16.0.6769.2017 just relate to the Office 365 Update channel? How To Browse Privately In Google Chrome Google’s game changing browser Chrome combines sophisticated technology with a simple UI, to create a faster, safer and easier browsing experience. Launched in 2008, Google Chrome quickly dominated the browser market to become the most used browser globally within 4 years of its public release. Google’s rapid and continuous development cycle ensures the browser continues to compete with the other most popular and advanced web browsers available. Speed Perhaps the area Google invested most of its development time to differentiate from other browsers. Google Chrome launches extremely quickly from your desktop, runs applications at speed thanks to a powerful JavaScript engine and loads pages rapidly using the WebKit open source rendering engine. Add to this quicker search and navigation options from the simplified UI and you have a browser that is pretty hard to beat on speed,. Clean, simple UI Google Chrome’s most striking feature and a substantial factor in its popularity - the simple UI hasn’t changed much since the beta launch in 2008. Google focused on trimming down unnecessary toolbar space to maximise browsing real estate. The browser is made up of 3 rows of tools, the top layer horizontally stacks automatically adjusting tabs, next to a simple new tabs icon and the standard minimize, expand & close windows controls. The middle row includes 3 navigation controls (Back, Forward & Stop/Refresh), a URL box which also allows direct Google web searching and a star bookmarking icon. Extensions and browser settings icons line up to the right of the URL box. The third row is made up of bookmark folders and installed apps. Easily overlooked now, this clean UI was a breath of fresh air compared to the overcrowded toolbars of popular browsers pre-2008. Privacy Another hugely popular feature, Incognito mode allows you to browse privately by disabling history recording, reducing traceable breadcrumbs and removing tracking cookies on shutdown. Chrome’s settings also allow you to customize regular browsing privacy preferences. Security Chrome’s Sandboxing prevents malware automatically installing on your computer or affecting other browser tabs. Chrome also has Safe Browsing technology built in with malware and phishing protection that warns you if you encounter a website suspected of containing malicious software/activity. Regular automatic updates ensure security features are up to date and effective. Customization, themes and settings make your browsing experience unique to you. Improve productivity, security, navigation speed, pretty much anything you can think of with apps and extensions from the Google Chrome Store. Install themes created by top artists or make your own using mychrometheme.com. Sign in with your Google Account to back up your contacts, preferences, history as well as access all your Google tools with a single login. The program provider has restricted distribution of older versions of this product. FileHippo apologises for any inconvenience caused.. |
